Permanent Hair Removal: How Permanent is it?
Some people grow tired of shaving, waxing and plucking, and consider permanent hair removal as a logical course of action. Knowing what's available and how much it costs is a determining factor, as are method and convenience. Does permanent hair removal really work? Will hairs eventually grow back? Inform yourself before making that appointment to ensure complete satisfaction.
Permanent hair removal can be accomplished with several different methods, but the most common is electrolysis. This method utilizes a light ray that can travel beneath skin layers, without damaging them, to pinpoint a hair follicle. Permanent hair removal is a misnomer, however. Heat generated in this light ray then damages or destroys the hair follicle, resulting in little or no hair growth for anywhere from three to six months. Eventually, the hair will grow back. Still, this is a viable option for many to facilitate active lifestyles and temperaments. To achieve this state however, several sessions are required, and each treatment is very expensive, averaging around $400 a visit.
Most people in the permanent hair removal industry define 'permanent' as being able to go months without having to shave again. Permanent hair removal using laser methods does achieve long-term hair removal but not permanent hair removal. Be advised that permanent hair removal terms and even semi-permanent hair removal terms can apply to periods of time of a few weeks to a few months. Clinical studies published in medical publications and to the FDA show that very few people achieve lasting, i.e. permanent results with permanent hair removal techniques.
Other common methods of addressing permanent hair removal are laser, flash lamp, medications and topical ointments. Laser and flash lamp methods of permanent hair removal tend to work better on darker hair than lighter shades. Methods that work to lesser degrees are the use of oral prescription mediations, which obviously require constant use, and prescription strength topical ointments and preparations. These also require ongoing use to achieve results in permanent hair removal.
Other methods of permanent hair removal with less satisfactory results are the use of electric tweezers, dietary supplements and non-prescription medications. Permanent hair removal is less likely with the use of tweezing, while half of people who tried a topical ointment achieved some degree of permanent hair removal, or at least to the degree that shaving was not required for at least a few weeks.
Some studies have shown that many people are unable to achieve permanent hair removal for various reasons, whether genetic or otherwise. Knowing what a product claims to do and what it actually achieves are two different things, and it's up to the consumer interested in permanent hair removal methods to search for the one that suits their goals best. Many of these permanent hair removal methods are cost prohibitive for many consumers and they must resort to less effective measures.
The bottom line is that there is no such thing as permanent hair removal. The most to be hoped for is reduction of time spent shaving, tweezing and plucking.

Tips for Pubic Hair Removal
Pubic hair removal is a tricky endeavor no matter which way you look at it. Pubic hair removal is not only a 'fashion statement' these days; it's become a matter of personal hygiene. Before you start however, there are a few things to remember and pointers to learn to make the pubic hair removal process as efficient and painless as possible.
There are two methods of pubic hair removal: wet or dry shaving. Each has advantages and drawbacks. For wet shaving, using traditional shaving tools and shaving cream will get you the results you're after, but it's easier if you trim hairs to about a quarter of an inch before shaving for pubic hair removal, and if possible, use an electric shaver. It goes without saying that if you use a scissors to trim pubic hair, use due caution.
Before preparing for pubic hair removal with the wet shaving method, soften the pubic hairs first. Taking a warm shower will do. Softening the hairs facilitates shaving. Always, use some sort of shaving lotion or gel prior to shaving for pubic hair removal or uncomfortable results will follow. Pubic hair removal is made easier by shaving in the direction of hair growth. Some people like to shave in the opposite direction to get a closer shave and smoother feel, but this can cause irritation and ingrown hairs, an unpleasant prospect in such a sensitive area! Refrain from repeatedly shaving the same area, as two or three strokes should be enough.
After completing the pubic hair removal process, remember to exfoliate. Clean the shaved area with warm water and body soap to keep pores open. Clogged pores lead to infections and ingrown hairs. Following that, make sure you moisturize, avoiding lotions or oils that contain a fragrance or colors until later. Powdering can complete the after pubic hair removal process for a soothing effect.
When opting for dry pubic hair removal, again trim the hair prior to shaving. Again, soften pubic hairs by showering or applying a cloth dampened with warm water. Make sure the area is dry before proceeding with pubic hair removal using this method. The next step is to sprinkle talcum powder over the area to be shaved. Using talcum powder absorbs sweat and oil at the same time, but make sure it's rinsed off after completion and also make sure that your skin isn't sensitive to talcum before doing this. Try not to let the powder get inside body passages. The next step in this pubic hair removal process is to shave stubble. As with the wet shaving pubic hair removal method, exfoliate upon completion to clean away hairs and prevent clogged pores, and then moisturize.
Another method for pubic hair removal done at home or salons and is called a Brazilian wax. While this method of pubic hair removal produces the longest lasting effects, it is also the most uncomfortable and is also expensive. No matter which method you choose for pubic hair removal, make sure you take the time to pre-moisten the area and then follow with moisturizing for comfort.

Waxing Hair Removal: Know the Basics
Waxing hair removal is a great way to rid the skin of unwanted and unsightly body hair, but satisfying results can be difficult to obtain if you don't know what you're doing. Whether waxing hair removal is done at home or in a pricey spa, there are a few basic techniques and reminders that everyone needs to remember.
First, be prepared! If hair isn't long enough, waxing hair removal techniques won't provide the finished appearance you're seeking. Make sure that at least one-quarter inch of hair has grown above the skin line. Many salons will trim hair that is longer than that before the waxing procedure, so it might be a good idea to call and ask first. The wax, whether hot or cold, will need something to adhere to, so if hair is too short, the waxing hair removal process will not catch all the hairs.
For the women out there, don't get a bikini line waxing hair removal treatment several days to a week before your monthly cycle, as studies have shown that women are more susceptible to pain at this time than others. Don't let this scare you away from experiencing a waxing hair removal, just pop some ibuprofen shortly before your appointment time and you'll be fine.
For those with sensitive skin or skin conditions, and especially if you're visiting a salon, ask the technician to apply a wax that contains chamomile, which will cut down on irritation after the waxing hair removal process. Also, if the wax can be applied in small sections, so much the better. The most important thing to remember when experiencing waxing hair removal, whether for a bikini line, a Brazilian or eyebrow, leg, arm or other body hair removal, is to be patient and remain calm. The first time for anyone receiving a waxing hair removal treatment is bound to be extra sensitive, but repeated procedures get easier every time you go.
After the waxing hair removal technician removes each strip of hair, he or she should apply pressure to the skin area to halt pain sensations. If they don't, feel free to do it yourself, and if questioned, explain that it alleviates the pain.
After your waxing hair removal session, exfoliate within 24 hours, using either a loofah sponge or an exfoliant that contains salicylic acid, which will help to unplug pores, and glycolic acid, which serves to get rid of dead skin cells. Between waxing hair removal sessions, apply liberal amounts of a hair-minimizing lotion and most importantly, resist the urge to shave! If you do, it's like having to start all over again.
Depending on your hair type, what kind of waxing hair removal techniques you asked for and to some extent, your ethnicity, waxing hair removal will last anywhere from two weeks to three months. As the sessions continue, hair will grow back finer and lighter, giving a cleaner, sleeker appearance. In addition, skin areas will toughen so that the waxing hair removal process is less painful each consecutive time you do it.
